A mix of both magic and Mind Reading:

Visual magic and sleight-of-hand set a fast and highly entertaining, upbeat pace to the start of the entertainment. 

For the second half of John's performance the style changes, as the emphasis shifts, moving to the Mind Reading section, upping the pace and excitement to the truly surprising and magical climax.
